Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the studio based?

Our studio is located at 826 Tluchak Lane, Suite 108, Chesapeake VA 23323 (visits by appointment only). We have corporate clients coming from all over the Hampton Roads area, using the studio as a controlled environment to film commercial advertisements, interviews and testimonial videos for their social media pages and business websites. Local photographers also rent the space and equipment for their portrait photography. We primarily serve Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Suffolk, but we provide many services to clients accross multiple countries. Click here to book studio time.

Do you have parking available at the studio?

There are three main spaces designated for guests right outside the main entrance at the studio, labelled "108" where guests may park their vehicle free-of-charge for the duration of their visit. If these spaces are occupied, there are also several parking spots towards the back of the complex right next to the studio labelled "Reserved" where guests may also park their vehicles. We cannot accept any liability for damaged vehicles.

Can I bring my gear truck inside the studio?

Yes, you can back your gear truck inside the studio if needed, especially if you are using your own gear on a production within the main studio. The maximum length of any vehicle inside the studio must not exceed 20ft.

What should I wear to a shoot?

Depending on the type of content and the style of the shoot, we typically recommend neutral tones and timeless outfits. When shooting against a green screen, you should not wear anything that has any shades of green as this will interfere with the edit during post-production.

What do crew members wear?

You can usually identify a member of our film crew as they wear all-black clothing (cap, shirt, hoodie, coat, pants and shoes) with an embroidered Made In The Dark™ logo clearly visible on their baseball cap, shirt, hoodie or coat. All-black clothing helps our team blend into the background, to avoid distracting guests at events while they carry out their technical duties. On ocassion, our team may be wearing their own choice of attire depending on the production. For corporate events, camera operators are instructed to wear a two-piece suit in order to blend in with the other guests at events.

How much notice do you need before booking?

It's always best to plan for events coverage and film production many weeks (or even months) in advance. We typically require at least three days notice before an event date, although in some cases we can do last-minute bookings for an additional fee. Booking in advance ensures that we can properly serve our clients, as crew availability and equipment inventory is constantly changing.

What areas do you cover?

Most of our work is done at the studio in Chesapeake, but we provide events coverage at venues such as churches, hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants, auditoriums, and theaters in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Suffolk, and throughout the wider Hampton Roads region. For some roles, for example when working on feature films and indie films, we do travel to locations across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and North Carolina for extended periods while production takes place.

How do I pay for services?

After your initial consultation (e-mail, telephone or in-person), an invoice will be generated online and sent to the e-mail address that you have provided. Invoices should be pain in full prior to service delivery, unless otherwise arranged. You can use most major debit and credit cards to pay your invoice securely online within your web browser.

How long until I receive my photos and videos?

We usually send out unedited photos and videos quite quickly (1-2 business days), but turnaround is typically 10–14 business days for photos, and can be slightly longer for edited video projects depending on the size of the deliverable. We also offer a 'rush fee' for clients who would like to receive their content faster.

How long does filming and photography take?

It typically takes anywhere from 4-8 hours to capture professional content. This is due to several factors, including distance to location, setup time and the amount of equipment required, briefing time, the amount of content required (some videos need multiple takes and multiple angles), and also debrief and break-down, where equipment has to be packed away ready for safe transport.

How long does it take to build a website?

Depending on the size and scope of the project, it can take anywhere between 1-8 weeks to design and develop a high quality website. Some factors include the amount of products and pages required, the amount of original media (graphics, 3D models, photos and videos) that needs to be produced, the level of development (micro-interactions and custom animations), and integration with third-party service providers (payment gateways and automation platforms). All our work is 100% unique and we never use pre-made templates, instead opting for a full and thorough design process, marketing strategy and pre-visualization to ensure that the end product properly aligns with your brand. We pay great attention to detail and all our websites are security-hardened, functional, and performant on Google searches. We fully test our websites on multiple devices to ensure cross-compatibility, and we supply quality assurance reports which are generated at the end of the development process to demonstrate that the website has been developed to the highest standard. For added security and to further control quality, we do not outsource website design or development tasks, prefering to do all the work in-house at our Chesapeake studio.
